MBBH Wildlife Watch

Here at Mandurah Boat and Bike Hire, we love where we work. Mandurah is such a beautiful town that sits contently on the edge of the Indian Ocean.

One thing that we love to do, and urge our customers to do, is get out on the water and spot all the fantastic wildlife that the Mandurah waterways and skies have to offer.

To make it easy for you, we’ve compiled this list of just a few unique animals to keep an eye out for the next time you join MBBH out on the water!

Bottlenose Dolphin

The Peel-Harvey Estuary is home to more than 80 wild bottlenose dolphins! It’s also one of the places that you can spot dolphins more frequently than not. Dolphin pods can have up to fifteen individuals, who all seem to love a good play in the water!

Our Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins are slenderer than the standard kind and have a more distinctive dorsal fin. If you’re looking for boat hire in Perth, and want an almost guaranteed dolphin sighting, be your own tour guide and book with Mandurah Boat and Bike Hire!

Blue Swimmer Crab

Perhaps one of Mandurah’s most well-known creatures—and delicacies—is the blue swimmer crab, or blue manna crab. These crabs are particularly large—in fact, the biggest blue swimmer crab caught in WA weighed over a kilogram!

They are easily recognisable by their striking blue colour, which is easily visible through our clear water.

Blue swimmer crabs are very popular edible crabs. Many of Mandurah’s local restaurants display dishes featuring the crustacean on their menu. If you choose to be your own captain with MBBH, you can dock at one of our many waterside restaurants and try the delicacy for yourself. Boat hire in Perth has never been so colourful, and delicious!

Australian Pelican

If you’ve never seen one of these strange birds before, it can be quite a surprise when you do for the first time! Australian pelicans can grow up to 1.8 metres long, with a wingspan of around 2.5 metres!

Perhaps, though, their most distinctive feature is their large bill and massive throat pouch. These bills can be 40-50cm long, making them perfect for scooping up fish. They are also very sensitive, which gives pelicans the ability to locate fish in murky water.

Aussie Pelicans love hanging around our Mandurah estuaries—and, you definitely can’t miss them!

Get your binoculars and cameras ready!

No matter the weather, there will always be some feathered, scaly and smooth creatures ready and rearing to say hello!

A great reason to choose MBBH for your Perth boat hire, is the awesome option we have to command your own boat! You can be in complete control of your day, choosing the hours you’d like to be on the water for and where you’d like to go.

You really are your own captain!
